Read the histogram: what "enhance" actually changes
Grey is before, amber is after. Left is black, right is white; height is how many pixels have that brightness.
A washed-out photo has its histogram bunched in the middle: nothing is truly black or white. Auto levels stretches it to use the full range, which is the biggest single improvement for most phone photos. Toggle it above and watch the amber shape spread out.
Contrast pushes values away from the middle; brightness slides everything left or right. If the shape piles up against either edge, you're "clipping", which means losing detail in shadows or highlights. Sharpening doesn't move the histogram much: it boosts differences between neighbouring pixels, so edges look crisper.

Is this photo enhancer free and private?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device, and there is no limit or watermark.
What does Auto levels do?
It finds the darkest and brightest 0.5% of pixels in each color channel and stretches them to full black and full white. That removes haze and color casts in one step. It is the same idea as "Auto Tone" in Photoshop and Lightroom.
Can it fix a blurry photo?
Sharpening (an unsharp mask) makes soft edges crisper, which helps slightly soft photos. It cannot recover detail that was never captured, as in badly out-of-focus or heavily motion-blurred shots. For small images, try the image upscaler first.
Is this "AI" enhancement?
No, and that is on purpose. Exposure, contrast, color and sharpness are fixed by exact, predictable math that never invents details, so faces and products stay truthful. When you want generative changes (new background, studio headshot), use the AI tools.
Will enhancing reduce quality?
The result is exported as a high-quality JPG or lossless PNG at the original resolution (up to 4000px on the long side). Pushing sliders to the extremes can clip highlights or add noise, so watch the histogram.
